National Orientation Agency Raises Awareness on Suicide Prevention

September 10, 2025

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Wednesday marked the 2025 World Suicide Prevention Day by urging Nigerians to break the stigma around suicide and promote mental health awareness. Speaking in Dutse, Jigawa State, NOA Director Ahmad Tijjani stated that over 720,000 people die by suicide globally each year and emphasized the importance of open, compassionate dialogue to prevent such losses.

Tijjani encouraged people to support those struggling by listening without judgment and seeking professional help when needed. He stressed that simple acts of kindness and care can save lives, reminding Nigerians that suicide is preventable and that every life matters.
