Indonesia Reshuffles Cabinet After Protests Over Lawmakers’ Perks

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has replaced five top ministers, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, after violent protests broke out across the country. The protests, which left seven people dead, were sparked by public anger over lawmakers receiving a monthly housing allowance of 50 million rupiah, almost 10 times the minimum wage in Jakarta. Many Indonesians saw the perk as unfair, especially during tough economic times. Economist Purbaya Yudhi has been appointed as the new finance minister, as the government tries to calm growing public dissatisfaction.
