Kwara Poly Expels 42 Students Over Examination Malpractice

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students following investigations into allegations of examination malpractice.

The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma and 11 National Diploma students drawn from various institutes and programmes of the institution.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin.

According to the statement, the students were investigated by the Polytechnic’s Examination Malpractice Committee after allegations were made against them. The committee subsequently found them guilty of the offences.

The management said the disciplinary action was approved in accordance with the provisions of the institution’s Students’ Handbook.

The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number of expulsions, with 23 students affected. It was followed by the Institute of Technology with eight students, while four students each were expelled from the Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Continuing Education.

Two students from the Institute of Health Technology and one from the Institute of General Studies were also expelled.

The affected students were enrolled in various programmes, including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Medical Imaging Technology, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship Development, and Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

The Polytechnic said the expulsions bring the students’ relationship with the institution to an end.

Management also directed the expelled students to return any property belonging to the Polytechnic that remained in their possession. The items are to be handed over to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.

The institution said the disciplinary measures followed the conclusion of the examination malpractice investigations and approval by the appropriate authorities.
