Adeyanju Urges Tinubu to Overhaul Drug Regulatory System

September 16, 2026

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on fake and substandard drugs in Nigeria.

Adeyanju also wants the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Mojisola Adeyeye, and heads of other regulatory agencies, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, removed over what he described as failures in regulation and enforcement.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Adeyanju raised concern over the continued circulation of counterfeit medicines and other potentially unsafe consumer products.

He said reports of drugs being sold in open spaces and exposed to excessive heat showed the need for urgent government action and a review of the country’s regulatory system.

Adeyanju also urged the Federal Government to overhaul the leadership of the affected agencies and improve enforcement to protect Nigerians from fake and substandard products.
