Falconets Begin U-20 World Cup With Defeat to Spain
Nigeria’s Falconets have started their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign in Poland with a 2-0 defeat to Spain on Monday . Spain took the lead in the 13th minute through Marisa Garcia, while Nigeria created chances to level the score but went into the break behind. Coach Moses Aduku’s side improved after halftime and enjoyed periods of control as they searched for an equaliser, but Spain goalkeeper Lopez made crucial saves to preserve her team’s advantage. Spain then sealed the win in the 72nd minute when Alba Cerrato scored on the counter-attack, leaving the Falconets without a point ahead of their second Group F match against China PR on Thursday, September 10.
