El-Rufai gives Defence Minister seven days to prove planned killings allegation

Former Kaduna State Governor and ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, has given Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa(rtd) seven days to provide evidence supporting his allegation that the former governor deliberately planned killings in Southern Kaduna or publicly retract the claim. Gen. Musa made the allegation during an interview on September 3, where he accused El-Rufai of policies and actions that deepened divisions and contributed to insecurity in Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023. The minister also accused the former governor of ordering the demolition of houses belonging to people with whom he had personal disagreements.

In a statement signed by El-Rufai’s eldest son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family, the former governor denied the allegation and demanded that Gen. Musa produce credible evidence to support it. The family said the allegation was too serious to be made without proof and asked the Defence Minister to use the same platform to retract it and issue a full apology. The family has given Gen. Musa a seven-day deadline from the date of the statement to provide evidence or withdraw the allegation, warning that failure to do so would result in the family pursuing legal action over what it considers an unsubstantiated claim.
