Kwara Set To Ignite Sporting Excellence As 8th State Sports Festival Holds August 21st – 29th

ILORIN — The Kwara State Sports Commission has announced the 8th Edition of the Kwara State Sports Festival, scheduled to be held from August 21st to August 29th, 2026, in Ilorin.

The event is described as the state’s premier sporting fiesta and a demonstration of the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment, as athletes from all 16 Local Government Areas are expected to compete across a wide range of sporting disciplines. The festival is positioned as a critical platform for discovering and nurturing talents who will represent Kwara at national and international levels.

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, said the festival remains a vital tool for talent identification, youth engagement and social integration. He added that the event will showcase the abundance of sporting talent across the local government areas and reinforce the state’s commitment to building a sustainable sports ecosystem in line with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Note: The statement referred to it as the 7th edition, but the headline and announcement list it as the 8th edition.

Mogaji assured stakeholders that comprehensive preparations are underway to deliver a well-coordinated event that meets national standards in organization, officiating and athlete welfare. Beyond the competitions, the festival will feature vibrant opening and closing ceremonies aimed at fostering community participation and positioning Kwara as a hub for sports excellence and development. The Commission called on corporate partners, sports stakeholders and the general public to support and participate in what it described as a landmark sporting spectacle that will inspire a new generation of athletes and strengthen unity across the state.
