Army Colonel Attack Occurred in Nasarawa, Not Abuja – FCT Police Clarify
ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that a serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was attacked by suspected kidnappers in Abuja, stating that the incident occurred in neighbouring Nasarawa State.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command said investigations directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, confirmed that the attack took place in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, outside the jurisdiction of the FCT. The Command said it commenced investigations immediately after the reports began circulating on social media alleging that the officer was attacked within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement, findings confirmed that the incident did not occur in Abuja as claimed by several online publications. Despite the clarification, CP Sanusi has ordered the immediate deployment of operational and intelligence assets to communities bordering Nasarawa State to strengthen security and prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the FCT.
The Command condemned the circulation of false and unverified security reports, and urged journalists, bloggers and social media users to confirm information with relevant authorities before publication. It noted that spreading unverified reports undermines public confidence and creates unnecessary fear among residents. The FCT Police Command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, and urged the public to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding. Members of the public were also encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
