Kwara, WHO Develop Health Promotion Framework to Improve Public Health
The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has commenced the development of a costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework aimed at strengthening health interventions and improving public health outcomes across the state.
The three-day workshop, held in Ilorin, is focused on adapting the National Health Promotion Communication Strategy to suit Kwara’s local needs. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, said the framework would provide a coordinated approach to promoting healthy behaviours and improving healthcare delivery.
She explained that the implementation plan would include monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track the impact of health promotion programmes. She added that Kwara had introduced initiatives, including the Integrated Reproductive Health and Malaria Control programme, alongside community-based communication tools to improve awareness and service delivery.
The State Health Promotion Officer, Mallam Jibril AbdulKarim, said the framework would establish a three-year roadmap covering areas such as immunisation, maternal and child health, nutrition, digital health solutions, and community outreach.
The workshop brought together health officials, WHO representatives, development partners, health promotion experts and other stakeholders to develop strategies aimed at achieving improved health outcomes and equitable access to quality healthcare services in Kwara State.
