July 27, 2026

The Defence Headquarters, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has launched a specialised Battlefield Mortuary Affairs Programme aimed at improving the identification, recovery and dignified management of military personnel killed in combat. The week-long training, taking place at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna from July 27 to August 1, brings together participants from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Air Commodore Chukwuma Ohanele said the initiative would strengthen the capacity of personnel to handle battlefield fatalities with professionalism and dignity amid the increasing pace of military operations across the country.
