Crisis Looms at Federal Polytechnic Offa as ASUP, Management Clash
A fresh industrial crisis is looming at the Federal Polytechnic Offa in Kwara State as tensions rise between the management and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
The union accused the institution’s Rector of threatening the life of its chairman during meetings held on April 20, 2026, over unresolved grievances affecting staff members. ASUP said the alleged remark led to the abrupt end of the second meeting and has created fear among members.
In response, the union issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding an unconditional withdrawal of the statement, warning that failure to comply could lead to legal action and a 14-day strike notice.
Reacting to the allegation, the management denied that the Rector made any threat, describing the statement as a philosophical comment about the temporary nature of life and careers. The institution said the remark was not directed at any individual and should not be interpreted as intimidation.
Management also claimed the meeting was marked by heated exchanges from some union leaders but reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues. It appealed to ASUP to embrace amicable discussions in the interest of industrial harmony and the continued progress of the Polytechnic.
