Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of veteran Nigerian actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly called Ogogo, describing his passing at the age of 66 as a deeply hurtful and heartbreaking loss to his family, colleagues, fans and the nation. Sanwo-Olu said the death of the Nollywood icon was a significant loss to Nigeria, particularly the country’s creative and entertainment industry. The governor, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, on Monday, extended his heartfelt condolences to Ogogo’s children, immediate family, friends, associates and colleagues, as well as practitioners across the Nigerian entertainment industry. He urged the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and fans of the late actor to accept his death as an act of God and seek solace in the legacy he left behind.
According to Sanwo-Olu, Ogogo was a bundle of talent who deployed his God-given gift to enrich the lives of others and entertain millions of Nigerians through his numerous film roles. He said the veteran actor’s contribution to the Nigerian film industry went beyond entertainment, noting that Ogogo used his cinematic performances to reflect society, shape character and leave an enduring impression on generations of film lovers. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one but urged the bereaved to draw strength from the fact that Ogogo lived a fulfilled and celebrated life. He described Ogogo’s passing as a profound loss to his family, the entertainment industry, and Nigeria, stressing that his departure had created a vacuum that would take considerable time to fill.
