NOA Urges ICAN to Embed National Values Charter in Accounting Practice
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to integrate the National Values Charter into accounting practice to strengthen integrity, accountability, and transparency in Nigeria’s economic system.
He made the call at the Abuja Accounting Week 2026, themed “Value Re-orientation and Professionalism: Cornerstone for Socio-Economic Development,” where he was represented by the Director of Communication and Media, Mallam Bala Musa.
Issa-Onilu said sustainable national development depends on strong values rather than resources alone, stressing that professionalism must go beyond technical competence to include honesty, discipline, and accountability in practice.
He explained that the National Values Charter was developed as a social contract aimed at promoting shared responsibility between government and citizens, adding that ICAN has a key role in producing professionals who embody ethical standards and national transformation.
The ICAN Abuja and District Society Chairman, Dr. Michael Nnachi Okpara, also urged accountants to uphold public interest, ethical standards, and professional excellence in the discharge of their duties.
The event was attended by professionals from across the country, including accountants, tax practitioners, and members of the press.
