Woro Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom After Six Months in Captivity

Kidnap victims from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after spending about six months in captivity. The victims were released on Wednesday, months after heavily armed terrorists, suspected to be members of Boko Haram, attacked the community in February 2026, killing more than 200 residents and abducting several people in one of the deadliest attacks recorded in Kwara State. Authorities have yet to disclose how the victims regained their freedom, as it remains unclear whether their release followed a security operation or the payment of ransom.

Confirming the development on Wednesday night, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Kwara State and Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Abubakar Danladi, said the victims are currently at the Wawa Military Cantonment in Niger State awaiting transportation to Ilorin. He said the Kwara State Government, through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, was making arrangements to bring them back home, adding that he could not confirm whether any ransom was paid. The Kwara State Government also thanked President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and everyone involved in securing the victims’ release, bringing relief to families who had waited for months for the safe return of their loved ones.
