Ogun State Government introduces ₦10,000 transport allowance for civil servants
The Ogun State Government has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
Governor Dapo Abiodun approved, according to a statement issued by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, on Thursday. The new measures, which take effect from April 2026 and will run for three months, are aimed at easing the burden of increased fuel prices and transportation costs on workers in the state.
Onasanya explained that eligible workers will be entitled to one day off duty each week in addition to the transport allowance, describing the intervention as a form of palliative support to improve workers’ welfare.
However, he noted that essential workers, including medical personnel, teachers, judicial officers, security agencies, and heads of departments, will be exempted from the weekly day-off arrangement, though they will still receive the transport allowance.
He added that accounting officers across ministries, departments, and agencies will determine the specific day off for workers to ensure that service delivery is not disrupted.
The Head of Service commended the governor for the initiative, expressing confidence that the gesture would not only provide relief but also boost productivity among the state workforce.
