Governor Sule Faults Colleagues Over ‘Basic Duties as Achievements’
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has criticised political office holders who present routine responsibilities such as payment of salaries and road construction as major achievements.
Speaking at the 59th inaugural lecture of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, the governor said leadership should be measured by innovative and impactful solutions that directly improve the lives of citizens.
Sule noted that basic responsibilities like paying salaries, providing infrastructure, and delivering essential services are fundamental duties of government and should not be celebrated as extraordinary accomplishments.
He stressed the need for leaders to think beyond conventional approaches, adding that true service lies in implementing initiatives that address long-standing challenges.
The governor cited efforts by his administration to rebuild markets previously prone to fire outbreaks, replacing repeated financial aid to affected traders with the construction of a modern facility that has since prevented further incidents.
He also highlighted interventions to tackle flooding in parts of the state, including the construction of a bridge in Auta near Keffi, made possible through improved internally generated revenue.
Sule’s remarks come amid growing calls for greater accountability and tangible development outcomes from public office holders across the country.
