Kenya Pays $30 Million to Secure 2027 AFCON Hosting Rights
Kenya has officially paid the $30 million hosting fee to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), securing its role as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, described the payment as a demonstration of Kenya’s readiness and commitment to delivering a successful tournament.
Mvurya noted that the government has restructured the Multi-Agency Local Organizing Committee, bringing together public and private sector stakeholders to ensure all aspects of planning are covered. Preparations will also include discussions on visa facilitation, tax exemptions, customs measures, and streamlined clearance for goods and services linked to AFCON.
Under the “Pamoja” initiative, Kenya will co-host the tournament with Uganda and Tanzania, highlighting regional cooperation and a shared goal of staging a world-class event. Mvurya emphasized that AFCON 2027 will not only unify the region but also drive economic growth, youth empowerment, job creation, and international recognition.
