Vice President Shettima Urges Stakeholders to Ensure Made-in-Nigeria Products Meet Global Standards
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on members of the National Council on Skills (NCS) to ensure that Made-in-Nigeria products and services consistently meet world-class standards, positioning the nation for global industrial competitiveness.
Addressing the council’s 8th meeting at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Shettima urged stakeholders from federal ministries, state governments, and the private sector to leverage the ingenuity and enterprise of Nigerians to drive industrial transformation.
He emphasized that the innovative spirit evident in communities, schools, and workshops must be effectively harnessed to power Nigeria’s ongoing industrial revolution.
Shettima highlighted the council’s role in inaugurating the National Working Committee for WorldSkills Nigeria, noting that the initiative extends beyond preparations for the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai in 2026. “Our goal is to ensure that Made in Nigeria is synonymous with world-class,” he said.
The Vice President identified institutions such as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) as pivotal to achieving the human capital development objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Shettima also underscored the importance of collaboration, stressing that it is essential for delivering on the council’s mandate. “We owe Nigerians jobs, hope, and a future where their skills are their currency. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he added.
During the meeting, the council reviewed Nigeria’s participation in WorldSkills Nigeria and the Shanghai 2026 competition. A proposal by Dangote Industries to implement a one-month “train-the-trainer” programme for 100 candidates in five high-demand skills—industrial mechanics, industrial electronics, instrumentation, welding and fabrication, and heavy-duty earth-moving equipment operations—was also considered and commended.
Dignitaries at the meeting included Governor Uba Sani, Ministers Morufu Tunji Alausa, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, John Owan Enoh, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, and a representative of the Dangote Foundation.
