Nigerian Army Retires 18 Senior Officers After 35 Years of Service

March 27, 2026

The Nigerian Army on Thursday formally retired 18 senior officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) after 35 years of dedicated service. The retirement ceremony coincided with the conclusion of a three-day NACST conference in Benin, Edo State, themed “Optimising Supply and Transport Capabilities Towards Providing Effective Service Delivery to NA Operations in All Missions.”

The retired officers included four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals, who were honoured in a colourful pulling-out parade, a longstanding military tradition that recognises years of service and sacrifice.

Speaking at the event, Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Shagaya, Corps Commander of NACST, described the ceremony as a celebration of the officers’ contributions to the Nigerian Army. He noted that the retired officers had served the nation with dedication from commissioning to retirement.

On behalf of the retirees, Maj.-Gen. Olaniyi Dare reflected on their decades-long careers, emphasizing the crucial role the Corps of Supply and Transport plays in ensuring soldiers are adequately sustained across various operations, both within Nigeria and abroad.

Dare added that while the officers were leaving active service, they remained committed to the ideals of the Nigerian Army and would continue to act as ambassadors of the corps, offering their experience and knowledge when needed.

The retirees also paid tribute to their families for their patience and support, acknowledging the personal sacrifices that come with military life, including long separations and constant relocations. The event was attended by current and former corps commanders and a representative of the Chief of Army Staff, recognising the retirees’ decades of service, dedication, and contributions to national defence.
