Kwara State Polytechnic to Reopen March 2 After Weeks of Closure
The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, will reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026, following weeks of closure, the Kwara State Government has announced.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued by the institution’s Acting Registrar and signed by the Director of the Information Division, Halimat Garba. According to the statement, the state government has approved the resumption of both academic and administrative activities.
Management directed all staff and students to return promptly on the stated date, expressing appreciation for their cooperation and understanding during the shutdown. It added that the institution looks forward to completing the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The polytechnic was closed on January 19 at the directive of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq following protests by students over the use of the campus as a temporary orientation camp for members of the National Youth Service Corps.
Earlier, the management explained that the institution had been designated as a temporary NYSC orientation camp due to prevailing security challenges in the state. While previous batches of corps members were accommodated during student breaks, the most recent orientation exercise coincided with full academic activities.
To prevent a breakdown of law and order and ensure a smooth orientation programme, the management had granted students a three-week break. However, some students opposed the decision, noting that they had only recently returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays, which led to protests on campus.
