Bus Plunges Into Ravine in Bolivia, Killing at Least 10
LA PAZ — At least 10 people were killed and several others seriously injured after a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine in Bolivia’s highlands late Thursday, police said.
The accident occurred near the community of Putina Cotamasa in Camacho province, north of the capital, La Paz. Authorities said the bus fell about 100 metres into the ravine, triggering hours-long rescue efforts by residents and emergency responders.
Survivors were evacuated from the scene and taken to hospitals in La Paz for treatment, according to local media reports. Among the victims were minors. The cause of the crash was not immediately known and remained under investigation. Deadly road accidents are frequent in Bolivia, particularly in mountainous regions where narrow roads, rugged terrain, and poor conditions are common. Risks are often heightened during the rainy season, when roads become slippery, and visibility is reduced.
