Iran, US Begin High-Stakes Talks in Oman Amid Rising Tensions
Iran and the United States have started critical negotiations in Muscat, Oman, aiming to resolve disputes over Tehran’s nuclear programme. While Iran wants the discussions to focus solely on nuclear issues, the US seeks to also address Iran’s ballistic missiles, regional proxy support, and human rights concerns.
The talks follow recent protests and government crackdowns in Iran and come amid a significant US naval buildup in the region. Iran has maintained its missile program is non-negotiable but signaled potential flexibility on uranium enrichment. Both sides face high stakes, with regional conflict risks if diplomacy fails.
