Reps Launch Probe into Airport, Seaport Concessions After 20 Years
The House of Representatives has launched a comprehensive investigation into the concession of federal air and seaport terminals and related shipping activities carried out between 2006 and 2025. The probe was flagged off on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who said the exercise would assess the performance of concessionaires, examine compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations, and determine the actual benefits accruing to the Federal Government over nearly two decades.
Represented by Hon. Laori Kwamoti, the Speaker explained that the ad hoc committee, chaired by Hon. Kolawole Akinlayo, will review concession agreements, revenue remittances, infrastructure development, service quality, operational efficiency, labour issues, and safety standards, while identifying gaps and systemic weaknesses in the framework. He stressed that the investigation is aimed at strengthening oversight, accountability, and protection of public assets, not undermining private sector participation.
