Syrian Government Forces Move Towards Kurdish-Controlled Hasakah Under Ceasefire Deal
On Monday, Syrian government security forces deployed a convoy of over 20 vehicles toward the Kurdish-controlled city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria. The movement follows a U.S.-backed ceasefire agreement reached on January 30, which envisions the Kurdish-administered regions being integrated with Damascus.
The ceasefire has helped prevent further clashes between President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which lost control of parts of eastern and northern Syria to government troops in January.
The convoy began its movement from the outskirts of Hasakah in the early afternoon, Reuters witnesses reported.
