House of Reps Summons Auditor-General, Ministers Over 10 Years of Agricultural Funds
The House of Representatives has summoned the Auditor-General of the Federation, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, to account for agricultural subsidies, intervention schemes, grants, and aid disbursed between 2015 and 2025.
The directive followed concerns raised by the House Ad-hoc Committee investigating the programmes, which described the submitted documents as incomplete and inadequate for proper oversight. The committee chairman, Jamo Aminu, noted that the Office of the Auditor-General had failed to provide audit reports for several agricultural intervention initiatives during the 10-year period under review. The investigation focuses on public spending in the agricultural sector amid worsening food insecurity, rising food prices, and persistent doubts about the effectiveness of government-backed programmes.
