Governor AbdulRazaq Suspends Kwara Polytechnic Rector, Orders Probe into Students’ Protest
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has suspended the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, indefinitely following a students’ protest that took place on Tuesday. The suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of an investigation into the protest. The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the most senior Deputy Rector has been directed to act as rector in the interim.
According to Punch, the governor also set up a three-member panel to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the protest and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence. The committee is chaired by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, with the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nafisat Buge, and the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Olufunke Shittu, as members. The panel has two weeks to submit its report, which will include recommendations on handling future incidents and suggestions for the growth and development of the institution.
