FG Commits to Credible Census, Prioritises Accuracy Over Speed

January 21, 2026

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to conducting a credible, transparent, and internationally acceptable national census, emphasizing that accuracy will take precedence over speed. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this statement during a courtesy visit by the National Population Commission (NPC) leadership, led by Chairman Dr Aminu Yusuf. Idris stressed that reliable population data is essential for national planning and assured that government agencies, including the National Orientation Agency, NTA, FRCN, Voice of Nigeria, and NAN, are prepared to drive nationwide public awareness once a census date is proclaimed. Dr Yusuf praised the ministry’s support and said the NPC’s systems, logistics, ICT infrastructure, and personnel are being refined to ensure efficiency, transparency, and public trust in the exercise.
