ATPN Calls on Diaspora to Turn Detty December Festivities into Investment Opportunities
The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) has urged Nigerians in the diaspora to use their annual festive homecomings as opportunities to invest in the country’s creative economy.
Ahead of the 2025 Detty December celebrations, ATPN emphasized the need for diaspora engagement to go beyond entertainment, encouraging cultural and financial reinvestment into Nigeria’s creative sector. The association aims to increase diaspora participation in the creative economy from 15 percent to 25 percent investment interest.
Analysis of the 2024 festivities showed that while Detty December generated about N1.5 trillion in domestic spending across hospitality, logistics, nightlife, and entertainment, less than 10 percent of that revenue was reinvested into creative infrastructure or destination development.
To boost productive engagement, ATPN has unveiled a calendar of events for the 2025 season, including a Creative Capital Week, EWA Experience Series, and a Cultural Economy Roundtable to assess the economic impact of the celebrations.
The association stressed that the upcoming festivities should focus on transforming cultural excitement into sustainable economic growth and long-term investment in Nigeria’s creative and cultural sectors.
