Police Arrest 12 Over Murder of Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 12 suspects in connection with the armed robbery and killing of Arise Television news anchor and producer, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, in Abuja.
The suspects, all male, were apprehended following the September 29 invasion of Unique Apartments in Katampe, where about 15 armed men reportedly stormed the building, killing Maduagwu and the security guard, Barnabas Danlami.
Police said four suspects were initially traced and arrested through tracking of phones stolen from the scene, leading to the capture of eight others.
During interrogation, one suspect, Shamsudeen Hassan, allegedly confessed to shooting the security guard, while another, Sani Sirajo, admitted attempting to stop Maduagwu from falling from the storey building but was unable to hold her.
Items recovered from the suspects include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, a locally made pistol, a pump-action gun, 36 rounds of live ammunition, two cartridges, four victims’ phones, two knives, a cutlass, and nine torchlights.
The police confirmed that the suspects shared ₦200,000 each from the robbery proceeds. The investigation, led by the Scorpion Squad under ACP Victor Godfrey, followed intelligence provided by Giga Forensics, a subsidiary of EIB STRATOC.
Authorities say all suspects are in custody and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
