Brown Ideye Doubts Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup Qualification Chances Despite South Africa’s Points Deduction

October 3, 2025

Former Nigerian international Brown Ideye has expressed doubt over the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, despite South Africa being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player. Nigeria must now win all remaining matches, including a crucial game against Benin on October 14, and rely on both South Africa and Benin dropping points to have a chance at qualification. Ideye questioned how the team ended up in such a difficult position, saying the outcome is largely out of Nigeria’s hands.
