Army Orders GOC Ibadan to Relocate to Kwara After Killings
The Nigerian Army Headquarters has directed the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State, to immediately relocate to Kwara to coordinate security operations following deadly attacks in the state.
The move comes after multiple incidents that left at least 12 forest guards and several residents dead, with others injured or abducted. The attacks, which occurred in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North, have heightened security concerns.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, called for increased security deployments to roll back the activities of criminal elements threatening communities. He expressed regret over the loss of civilians and forest guards who mounted resistance against the attackers.
The governor also acknowledged the sacrifices of security forces, forest guards, and local hunters who engaged the assailants, noting that despite losing five members, they succeeded in neutralising several attackers.
The redeployment of the GOC is expected to strengthen military coordination in Kwara and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state.
