Mauritania’s President Ghazouani Vows Economic Boost Ahead of Election
Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President of the Mauritania has pledged to expedite investments aimed at sparking growth in energy and mining sectors as he faces six opponents in the upcoming June 29 presidential election.
Ghazouani, a 67-year-old former army chief, aims to strengthen his leadership by boosting the economy of the future gas-producing nation while contends with challengers such as anti-slavery advocate Biram Dah Abeid, who secured over 18 percent of the vote in the 2019 election.
He further stated that his agenda will include plans for a gas-fired power plant alongside commitments to renewable energy expansion and the development of gold, uranium, and iron ore mining if he was re-elected.
