Kwara Government Highlights Achievements, Distributes Hospital Materials to Eleven Communities

June 27, 2024

In a significant move to ensure the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots, the Kwara State government has distributed hospital materials and other essential items to eleven communities across the state’s sixteen local government areas.

This initiative, part of the NG Cares program, underscores the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents.

During the commissioning of new hospital equipment, Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi highlighted the state government’s achievements in empowering, supporting, and enhancing the lives of Kwara State citizens.

He outlined the program’s objectives, which include expanding livelihood assets, supporting food security services, and providing grants to poor and vulnerable households.

Deputy Governor Alabi revealed that over two million citizens have benefited from various programs and interventions under NG Cares, including Fadama, Social Cash Transfer, Labour Intensive Public Workforce, and the Social Development Agency.

He noted that these initiatives, operating under the state’s social investment program (KWASSIP), aim to provide SMEs with necessary interventions and support high-value assets such as fishing boats, passenger boats, and chillers dining machines to communities.

In addition to these efforts, the government has distributed eleven sets of hospital materials to eleven communities within the sixteen local government areas.

These materials include pillows, mattresses, digital processors, mercury stethoscopes, galley pots, artery forceps, suction machines, wheelchairs, stretchers, Doppler devices, examination couches, autoclave machines, and more.

These items are intended to bolster healthcare delivery and enhance operational capacity within the communities.

The Deputy Governor emphasized the state government’s target to impact over 600,000 beneficiaries across all sixteen local government areas.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to fully implementing NG Cares to improve the welfare of the state’s residents and advised beneficiaries to optimize the benefits of the equipment and assets provided.

Under the Social Cash Transfer program, the state government has been providing financial support to the elderly, chronically ill, disabled, and poor individuals. Beneficiaries receive ₦10,000 monthly for one year before a new set is enrolled. Thousands have already benefited from this initiative.

The Labour Intensive Public Workforce program has also positively impacted communities, employing able-bodied men and women aged 18 to 45 for public works across the sixteen local government areas, with participants receiving monthly stipends.

Through the Committee on Social Development Agency, the government has provided essential social and economic infrastructure, including water, sanitation, primary health centers, and education facilities.

Various micro-infrastructure projects have been completed, directly benefiting thousands of residents. The state government has approved an additional thirty social infrastructure projects in ten communities, projected to impact over 250,000 Kwarans.

The Fadama project, managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Capital Development, has supported farmers with agricultural inputs and services for crops such as maize, soybeans, and rice.

The primary objective is to achieve food security and maintain a stable food supply chain. The government has distributed agricultural assets, including knapsack sprayers, smokey kilns, gun sprinklers, pumping machines, and ruminant animals, benefiting thousands of farmers.

Beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude for the government’s efforts. One resident stated, “It is easy to lament the past, but it is better and more noble to do something today to reshape the future, and that is exactly what the leadership of this government is doing. They have helped many farmers in our community, and for that, we are grateful.
