Fire Guts Four Rooms, 23 Shops in Ilorin
A building housing four rooms and 23 shops was gutted by fire on Thursday along Onimamayin Street in the Agbo-Oba Taiwo Oke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to a statement from the Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, firefighters were able to prevent the complete destruction of the building, limiting the damage to nine shops. Despite their efforts, a provision store and several industrial sewing machines were lost in the blaze.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge,” the statement noted.
The Director of the Kwara Fire Service, Prince John Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed sympathy to the victims of the fire, offering prayers for the restoration of their losses. He also used the opportunity to urge the public to stay vigilant and take safety precautions, advising that all electrical appliances should be unplugged when not in use.
The incident has left several business owners counting their losses, as authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the damage.
