Kwara state government Begins Second Phase of Private Motor Parks Recertification

April 30, 2026

The Kwara State Government has launched the second phase of its recertification exercise for privately owned motor parks as part of ongoing reforms to improve standards in the transportation sector.

The exercise, which commenced at the Ministry of Transportation headquarters in Ilorin, is aimed at enhancing safety, orderliness, and overall service delivery across motor parks in the state. It builds on the first phase, which assessed operational conditions and identified areas requiring improvement.

Commissioner for Transportation, Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi, said the initiative aligns with the development agenda of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to modernise the transport system in line with global best practices. He noted that transportation plays a key role in economic and social development, making proper regulation essential.

The recertification process is designed to ensure compliance with government guidelines covering safety standards, environmental sanitation, traffic control, passenger welfare, licensing, and security measures. The second phase places additional emphasis on monitoring compliance, improving operational efficiency, and promoting professionalism among operators.

Officials said the exercise also aims to discourage illegal practices and ensure that all private motor parks operate within approved regulatory standards. Authorities stressed that the initiative is not punitive but intended to raise standards, boost public confidence, and create a more efficient operating environment for commuters and operators alike.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Kabiru Salau Abdullahi, described the programme as a key part of the government’s oversight responsibilities, noting that it will help identify gaps and reinforce compliance across the sector.

Transport unions and operators participating in the exercise expressed support for the initiative, stating that it would improve service quality and safety. They also pledged continued cooperation with government policies to strengthen the state’s transport system.

Operators involved in the current phase include Afenifere Transport Service, Ayobami Transport Service, Winners Express Travels, Benue Links Nigeria Limited, Kobad Express, Safetrip Limited, Trustlinks Automobile Concepts, El-Lado Mass Transit, A R A Salam Triumph Transport Service Limited, IQ Sowbel Logistics Company, and Dan-Alikali Global Transport Service.
