Woro Abductees Reunite With Families In Kaiama After Months In Captivity
Victims of the February 2026 abduction in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been reunited with their families after months in captivity. The abductees were rescued on August 4, 2026, during a joint security operation and have since been receiving medical attention in Ilorin, the state capital, and were transported to their ancestral communities in Kaiama on Thursday.
Emotional Homecoming
The spokesperson to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, M.D. Baniya, disclosed the return in a statement on Thursday night. According to Baniya, the victims were escorted to Kaiama by the council chairman, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, alongside the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Shehu Muazu, and the Kiwazi of Wojibe, Hon. Ahmed Ibn Mohammad. He said the delegation ensured the victims, some of whom were still recovering, returned safely and with dignity. The homecoming was marked by emotional scenes as families welcomed their loved ones after months of uncertainty.
Appreciation To Leaders
Danladi expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their intervention and efforts towards securing the victims’ release. He also thanked the Emir of Kaiama and members of the Kaiama Emirate Council for their prayers, guidance and support throughout the period. The rescue and reunion came months after terrorists kidnapped residents of Woro community in February 2026, an incident that heightened security concerns in parts of Kaiama LGA bordering Niger State, with security agencies continuing operations in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of border communities.
