Federal Government Declares Friday Public Holiday for Workers’ Day Celebration
The Federal Government has declared Friday as a public holiday to mark the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja.
According to the statement, the holiday is intended to allow Nigerian workers to fully participate in activities marking Workers’ Day, which is celebrated annually on May 1.
The minister congratulated workers across the country, describing their contributions as vital to national development and economic growth.
He commended their dedication, hard work, and resilience, noting that their efforts remain central to Nigeria’s progress and prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo also urged workers to continue demonstrating patriotism, productivity, and commitment to service, stressing that these values are essential for sustainable national development.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and security of workers, as well as creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
The minister encouraged workers to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, discipline, and hard work in nation-building.
