Army to Dismantle Criminal Hideouts in Kwara, Niger, COAS Assures Residents*
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu has assured residents of Kwara and Niger states that the Army is determined to flush out terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups operating in the region.
Shaibu gave the assurance during his maiden visit to the troops of Operation Savannah Shield at Sobi Barracks, Ilorin. He urged personnel to dominate the battlespace and intensify offensive operations against criminal elements in the North-Central.
Army spokesperson Col. Apollonia Anele said the COAS reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and announced the deployment of additional combat enablers and resources to strengthen clearance operations and dismantle criminal hideouts.
Shaibu also pledged improved welfare packages for troops and their families, and called for continued discipline and professionalism.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved N120 million for the reconstruction of communities affected by attacks in Kaiama Local Government Area. Secretary to the State Government Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril said the funds will cover rebuilding of homes and palaces, provision of boreholes, and fumigation exercises, following earlier distribution of relief materials with support from NEMA.
Jibril dismissed a viral video allegedly showing bandits in the Woro axis, saying DSS findings suggested irregularities and that many of those shown could not be identified by local residents. He noted that armed groups often exploit forest corridors linking Kwara, Niger, and Kogi, and urged sustained military raids and aerial surveillance to prevent criminals from regrouping.
