Adeleke Revives Osun Security Trust Fund, Donates ₦300m as Private Sector Backs Initiative
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially relaunched the Osun Security Trust Fund as part of renewed efforts to address insecurity across the state.
The governor announced the initiative on Thursday in Osogbo, saying it was revived after being abandoned by the previous administration. He explained that his government updated the enabling law and reintroduced the fund to strengthen security operations.
Adeleke described the fund as a non-political and necessity-driven initiative aimed at improving safety across communities in Osun State. He also donated ₦300 million on behalf of the state government to kick-start the scheme.
According to him, the fund will support the provision of modern security infrastructure, including the establishment of a real-time surveillance situation room and the deployment of CCTV systems across strategic locations.
He added that operational vehicles and refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) would be distributed to security agencies to enhance response capacity.
The governor stressed that the initiative is designed to ensure sustainable funding for security and encouraged private organisations, banks, market associations, and other stakeholders to contribute.
At the launch, Adeleke’s brother and businessman, Dr. Deji Adeleke, donated ₦500 million in support of the fund, alongside contributions from other corporate bodies.
The Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, said the trust fund reflects a collective responsibility to improve security and attract investment, adding that transparency would be maintained in the management of all contributions.
Meanwhile, the Accord Party has dismissed reports suggesting it endorsed President Bola Tinubu, insisting it remains committed to supporting Governor Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The party’s leadership said any official endorsement decisions would be formally communicated, reaffirming that Adeleke remains its candidate as preparations for the election continue.
The development comes amid growing political activity in the state ahead of the next electoral cycle, with parties positioning themselves for the 2026 polls.
