FIFA Opens Disciplinary Case Against SAFA

FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena for allegedly fielding the player while he was suspended during a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in March. Mokoena had accumulated two yellow cards earlier in the campaign, which should have triggered a one-match ban. If found guilty, South Africa could forfeit the 2–0 victory, potentially altering Group C standings. SAFA and Mokoena have six days to respond, with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee set to rule on the matter.
