Tinubu Returns to Abuja After State Visit to Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a three-day official state visit to Brazil, where he signed key bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening ties between both nations. The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 1:20 a.m. on Thursday and was welcomed by top government officials, including governors, ministers, and National Assembly leaders.
During the visit, Nigeria and Brazil signed five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, trade, science, diplomacy, and finance. Highlights included the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which will enable direct Lagos–São Paulo flights to be operated by Air Peace, and Brazil’s commitment to facilitate the return of its state-owned oil giant, Petrobras, to Nigeria. Agreements were also reached on agricultural financing and scientific collaboration.
Tinubu assured Brazilian investors of his administration’s economic reforms, citing growth in Nigeria’s capital market as proof of renewed investor confidence, and urged the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil to play active roles in nation-building. The visit featured high-level talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, red-carpet receptions, and cultural engagements, which both leaders described as the beginning of a new phase in Nigeria–Brazil relations. The trip followed Tinubu’s participation in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Japan, underscoring Nigeria’s strategic diplomatic push to deepen global economic and political partnerships.
