Kwara Government Inaugurates Committee on Smooth Co-Existence Between COED, KWASUED

The Kwara State Government has inaugurated a high-powered committee to develop a framework for the smooth co-existence of the Kwara State College of Education (COED), Ilorin, and the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), also located in Ilorin.
Speaking at the inauguration held at the Ministry of Tertiary Education’s conference hall, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the initiative was aimed at preventing institutional clashes and ensuring both institutions complement each other. She explained that KWASUED would continue to operate temporarily from the COED premises until a permanent site is secured by the government. The committee, chaired by former Permanent Secretary, Alhaji AbdulRahman Tunde Sidiq, is expected to submit its report within three weeks and will focus on strategies for facility sharing, defining institutional roles, and addressing transitional challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Sidiq assured that the committee would carry out its work with objectivity and dedication to strengthen Kwara’s higher education system. The Commissioner commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising education, describing the establishment of KWASUED as part of his vision to make Kwara a hub of academic excellence. Members of the committee include representatives of both institutions, the Ministry of Justice, and labour unions in the education sector.
