President Tinubu Departs Japan, Heads to Brazil for State Visit

August 22, 2025

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday departed Yokohama, Japan, for Brazil, continuing his two-nation working visit. The President, who will make a brief stopover in Los Angeles before proceeding to Brasília, is scheduled to begin his state visit to Brazil on Sunday, August 24.

Tinubu’s journey began on August 15 when he left Abuja with a stop in Dubai before arriving in Yokohama on August 18 for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held on August 20. During his stay in Japan, the President held bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials and business leaders, focusing on investment, innovation, and Africa’s economic transformation, while also engaging with the Nigerian community. In Brazil, Tinubu is expected to meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for talks on strengthening cooperation and boosting investment ties. He will also participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors, where new agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed to deepen Nigeria-Brazil relations.
