Reps Demand Review of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Route Through Delta, Ondo
The House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to retain the originally proposed route of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway through Ondo State and the Escravos–Ogheye–Ugborodo corridor in Delta State, seeking a review of plans to realign sections of the road. The motion, moved by Thomas Ereyitomi during Wednesday’s plenary, warned that diverting the highway away from coastal communities could deny them the expected benefits of improved connectivity, trade and economic opportunities. Contributing to the debate, Rivers lawmaker Inombek Abiante questioned the reasons for the proposed change, while other lawmakers raised concerns about its environmental and socioeconomic implications.
