Akpabio Declares National Assembly Solidly Behind Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that the National Assembly is firmly behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027, insisting that nobody would be allowed to use the legislature to destabilise the president. Speaking at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council in Abuja, Akpabio said Tinubu deserved another term because of his performance and the reforms Nigerians were beginning to recognise. The declaration has drawn attention to the relationship between the legislature and the executive, particularly the need to balance political support with the National Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to provide oversight of the government.
Akpabio also commended the inclusion of politicians from different parties in Tinubu’s campaign council, citing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party. He described the arrangement as unusual in Nigeria’s democratic history and suggested it could pave the way for a second-term unity government.
