Police investigate Fadahunsi, Borno commissioner, Kuje chairman over alleged inciting comments

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations into alleged inciting comments by Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Osun East, Borno State Commissioner for Youth, Sainna Buba, and Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Danjuma Shekwolo. The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this at a joint security spokespersons’ briefing in Abuja, saying inciting members of the public, particularly in relation to the electoral process, is a criminal offence. He confirmed that Fadahunsi had already been questioned by the police, while investigations into the other cases are ongoing, with the Force expected to release its findings.

Iniedu called on members of the public with information on the incidents to come forward with statements and evidence that could assist investigators in building cases for prosecution. He identified the reluctance of witnesses to provide evidence as a major challenge to criminal prosecutions, noting that allegations must be supported by witnesses and evidence in court. The police spokesperson assured that the Force would carry out its responsibility of maintaining law and order regardless of the individuals involved, while cautioning political stakeholders against making statements capable of inciting members of the public.
