Commonwealth Games: Nigeria’s Medal Haul Rises to 14, Holds Fifth Spot
GLASGOW — Team Nigeria maintained fifth position on the medals table at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow following Wednesday’s events, with a total of 14 medals.
The breakdown released by Team Nigeria shows 7 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals so far. Nigeria’s success has come across four sports: para powerlifting, weightlifting, athletics and para athletics. Para powerlifting has been the biggest contributor with 6 medals — 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Esther Nworgu won gold in the women’s lightweight up to 61kg, with Esther Oyema taking silver in the same event. Roland Ezuruike secured silver in the men’s lightweight up to 72kg.
Owolabi Oluwafemiayo won gold in the women’s heavyweight over 61kg, Rita Ferdinand added silver in the women’s heavyweight, and Riluwan Idris clinched gold in the men’s heavyweight over 72kg. Weightlifting produced 4 medals: 3 gold and 1 silver. Edidiong Umoafia won gold in the men’s 71kg, Onome Didih took gold in the women’s 53kg, and Lawal Rofiat won gold in the women’s 58kg. Ruth Nyong added silver in the women’s 48kg. In athletics, Nigeria has won 3 medals.
Jessica Oji earned silver in the women’s shot put, Kayinsola Ajayi claimed bronze in the men’s 100 metres, and Temitope Adeshina won bronze in the women’s high jump. The final gold medal came from para athletics, where Goodness Nwachukwu won the women’s F42-44/F61-64 event. Australia leads the overall standings with 47 gold, 21 silver and 35 bronze for a total of 103 medals. Canada is second with 14 golds, followed by England and Scotland in third and fourth. Nigeria sits fifth after six days of competition.
