Court restrains NDC, INEC from recognising Plateau governorship candidate

October 2, 2026

The Federal High Court in Jos, Plateau State, has restrained Jonathan Akuns from presenting himself as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for the 2027 election. Justice S.T. Ishaya issued the order following a suit by another aspirant, Alfred Dapal, who is challenging the party’s September 15 nomination exercise. The court also restrained the NDC and INEC from recognising or acting on Akuns’ name as the party’s candidate pending the determination of the case. The matter has been adjourned to October 5 for hearing.
