Federal, State, Local Government Workers Begin Three-Day Warning Strike
Public sector workers across federal, state and local governments are set to begin a three-day warning strike from midnight Friday, following the failure of the Federal Government to address demands over petrol prices, wage support and a new minimum wage. The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council has directed its affiliate unions and workers nationwide to fully comply with the action, scheduled to run from October 2 to October 4, 2026. The unions are demanding a reduction in petrol prices to 500 naira per litre, an immediate wage award and early negotiations for a new minimum wage expected in 2027. The Nigeria Labour Congress has also backed the demands, citing the rising cost of living and declining purchasing power of workers.
