Kwara Marks World Mental Health Day with Focus on Persons with Disabilities
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the mental health and well-being of persons with disabilities through inclusive policies and programmes that encourage dignity, equal opportunities, and social inclusion.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, committed during the 2026 World Mental Health Day celebration held at the Ministry’s Registry Hall in Ilorin. The event, themed “Mental Health for All: Prioritizing the Well-being of Persons with Disabilities,” focused on raising awareness, reducing stigma, and improving access to mental health support.
Health experts at the programme encouraged persons with disabilities to build self-confidence, maintain healthy lifestyles, and seek professional help when faced with emotional or psychological challenges. They also called on families, caregivers, and the public to provide a supportive environment that promotes inclusion and respect. Representatives of disability groups commended the Kwara State Government for its continued support and welfare initiatives, while participants took part in health talks, interactive sessions, recreational activities, and group exercises aimed at promoting mental wellness.
